Lavoie Ignites Clarkson Offense
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Sophomore Genevieve Lavoie
(Delson, QUE) scored two goals and assisted on another as the
Clarkson University Women's Hockey team won its third straight game
with a shutout of Union College, 6-0, in ECAC Hockey play Friday
night.
The Golden Knights improved to 17-5-3 overall and 8-4-1 in the
ECAC, holding on to a tie for third place in the league
standings. Union dropped to 3-18-2 and 0-11-2. Clarkson continues
its brief road trip at Rensselaer on Saturday.
Clarkson took little time to produce the game-winning goal against
the Dutchwomen, scoring at the 4:30 mark of the first period.
Senior Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT) scored her third goal of the
season with assists going to Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE) and
Lavoie. A power-play tally from Lavoie in the final minutes of the
period gave the Knights a 2-0 advantage, as freshman Melissa Waldie
(Newmarket, ONT) and Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) assisted.
Clarkson held a 17-0 advantage in shots in that opening stanza.
Through the edge in shots wasn't quite as considerable in the
second period (16-3), it was all Knights again in that frame. Kim
McKenney (Smiths Falls, ONT) and Amanda Dittmer (Chatham, ONT) each
scored their third goals of the season midway through the period.
Waldie, Ashleigh Moorehead (Clinton, NY), Jessica Cloutier (Parker,
CO) and Stephanie Wyss (Allenlueften, Switzerland) each gained
assists, with Wyss' point being the first of her collegiate
career.
In the third period, the Knights continued to pour on the offense
as Lavoie picked up an unassisted tally 28 seconds into the frame,
and then Selina scored a short-handed goal with a helper coming
from Waldie at 1:41.
Clarkson finished the game with a 46-7 edge in shots and Lauren
Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) recorded her fourth career shutout,
improving to 7-1 on the season. Lundy Day made 40 saves for
Union.
The Knights have not allowed a goal to the Dutchwomen since their
first meeting of the 2006-07, a stretch of 205 minutes, 15 seconds.
