Quinnipiac Falls Again at Wayne State
DETROIT, Mich. - Elyse Cole (Belleville, Ontario) scored her ninth goal of the season in a 5-2 loss to the Wayne State Warriors Saturday afternoon at the City Sports Arena in Detroit. The Bobcats fall to 3-16-4 on the season, while the win improves Wayne State's record to 12-6-2.
Quinnipiac got on the board first with Cole scoring 5:43 into the first period. Trudy Reyns (Port Hope, Ontario) and Nicolette Leone (Trenton, Ontario) picked up helpers on the goal. The assists were Reyns' seventh and Leone's second of the season.
The first period ended 1-1 after Wayne State's Sammi Bowers' goal tied the game ten minutes later.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 2-1 lead after Erika Bolognino (Carol Stream, Ill.) scored an unassisted goal at 6:15 in the second period. The goal was Bolognino's fifth of the season.
The Warriors scored late to tie the game 2-2 at the end of the middle frame before adding three third period goals to solidify the win. Bowers scored two of the three goals in the final period for Wayne State to record the hat trick.
Tia Wishart (Vancouver Island, British Columbia) made 26 saves in her third start of the season for the Bobcats, while Valery Turcotte stopped 15 of the 17 shots the Bobcats threw on goal.
The Bobcats return to action Friday, Jan. 25 as they travel to Erie, Pa. to take on the #4 Mercyhurst Lakers.
