Bobcats Fall to Wayne State
TAYLOR, M.I. -- Team Captain Trudy Reyns (Port Hope, Ontario)
scored her fourth goal of the season, while Elyse Cole (Belleville,
Ontario) continued to dominate offensively for the Bobcats by
scoring her team-leading eighth of the 2007-08 campaign; however,
it was not enough Quinnipiac as it fell to Wayne State, 6-2, Friday
night. Quinnipiac is now 3-15-4 on the season.
The Warriors scored five second period goals and led 5-0 after two
periods of play.
Reyns was able to get Quinnipiac on the board at 8:09 of the third period. The goal was unassisted and came while the team was short-handed. Reyns collected the puck at her own blueline before moving it into the Warrior zone and scoring from just inside the hash marks.
It was the second short-handed goal of the season for the Bobcats with Reyns joining Vicky Graham (Glen Riddle, Pa.) as the only two players to collect a goal on a player disadvantage.
Cole's goal was also unassisted and came at 15:09 of the final period. She blocked a clearing attempt up the boards and fired a slap shot from just inside the blueline that beat Wayne State's Valery Turcotte for the goal.
She is now on a five-game point streak and has recorded a point in six of the last seven games (3goals, 4 assists). Her goal tonight also moves her three points ahead of Brandice Moniz (Oakville, Ontario) and Kallie Flor (Farmington, Minn.) for the team lead in points with 14 this season.
Tia Wishart (Vancouver Island, British Columbia) played solid in a relief effort tonight, making 11 third period saves.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow afternoon as they play Wayne State in Detroit's City Sports Arena at 2 p.m.
