St. Lawrence Skates by Big Red

CANTON, N.Y.-The Big Red women's ice hockey team dropped a 6-2 game at St. Lawrence on Friday night in its first ECAC Hockey match up of the weekend. Cornell moves to 8-8-1 for the season and is 5-5-1 in league action. St. Lawrence improves to 16-7-0 overall and is 9-2 in ECAC Hockey.

St. Lawrence jumped out to an early lead scoring three unanswered goals in the first period.

Forty-three seconds into the second period, senior captain Caeleigh Beerworth put the Big Red on the board for the first time. Her goal was assisted by co-captain and fellow senior Brittany Forgues.

Cornell pulled within one goal after sophomore Liz Zorn notched her 11th goal of the season at 4:59 of the second period on an assist by Beerworth.

St. Lawrence then pulled away scoring two more goals in the second period, and one in the third.

The Saints outshot the Big Red, 34-20. St. Lawrence was 1-5 on the power play while Cornell was 0-2.

Sophomore Jenny Niesluchowski suffered the loss making 14 saves in 4:18 played in the first period. Freshman Kayla Strong played the remainder of the game making 14 saves. Megahan Guckian made 18 saves in net for St. Lawrence.

The Big Red will be back in action tomorrow evening when it faces Clarkson at 4 p.m.
