Dartmouth Falls In Battle of Top 10 Teams
CANTON, N.Y. -- The Dartmouth women's hockey team cut an early
three-goal deficit down to one, but the Big Green could not
overcome St. Lawrence as the Saints earned the win, 5-2.
St. Lawrence (15-7-0, 8-2-0 ECAC) got on the board first, four
minutes into the game as Carson Duggan put the Saints up 1-0. She
was able to score following a shot from Marianna Locke that hit the
post. Sabrina Harbec increased the lead to 2-0 in favor of St.
Lawrence with 12:04 left in the opening period with her ninth of
the season.
The Saints netted their third of the period with 2:34 remaining
when Lisa Batchelor found the back of the net with her fourth of
the season to give St. Lawrence a commanding 3-0 lead. The Saints
recorded 16 shots on goal in the first period to only seven from
the Big Green.
Dartmouth (11-5-2, 8-4-2 ECAC) cut the lead to 3-1 on a goal from
senior Carrie
Thompson (Shorewood, Minn.) with 15:40 left in the second period.
The assist was credited to junior Marley
McMillan (St. Paul, Minn.), while for Thompson it was her fifth
goal of the season.
The Big Green had a great opportunity midway through the period
with a 5-on-3 advantage, but came up empty without a shot on
net.
Dartmouth got another chance on the power play and this time the
Big Green cashed in. Freshman Amanda
Trunzo (Andover, Minn.) put Dartmouth within one of St. Lawrence
with her seventh of the season on the power play. Junior Julia
Bronson (Arlington, Va.) fired a shot on net that was saved and
Trunzo collected the puck and scored.
The Saints outshot the Big Green, 17-10, in the second period, but
junior netminder Carli
Clemis (Taber, Alta.) made all 17 saves for Dartmouth. She made
four important saves on a Saints power play after the Big Green cut
the lead to one.
In the third period, St. Lawrence went back up by two goals with
Duggan scoring her second of the afternoon on the power play with
Guay earning her third assist of the game. The Saints would add
another insurance goal with 5:35 remaining in the game on a goal by
Locke.
Clemis set a new career-high with 42 saves in net for the Big
Green, including double-digit saves in each period. Goaltender
Meghan Guckian pushed aside 22 shots to earn the win for St.
Lawrence.
The Big Green will be back in action this coming Thursday, January
17, as top-ranked New Hampshire comes to Hanover for a 7 p.m.
face-off at Thompson Arena.
