Murphy Lifts Yale Past Princeton
PRINCETON, NJ -- A pair of third-period goals by sophomore
forward Caroline Murphy, including a short-hander and an
empty-netter, lifted Yale (6-6-4, 4-5-2 ECAC Hockey) to a 5-3 win
at Princeton (7-8-4, 5-6-1 ECAC Hockey) Friday night. Junior
goaltender Shivon Zilis made 40 saves
for the victory.
The Bulldogs got goals from junior forwards Danielle Kozlowski and
Sarah Tittman to take a 2-0 lead early in the second. Two minutes
after Katherine Dineen cut the lead in half junior defenseman Helen
Resor made it 3-1, but Dineen scored again at the end of the second
and a minute into the third to tie things up.
That set up Murphy's heroics, as she fought off a Tiger defender in
the Princeton zone on a Yale penalty kill and, while falling to the
ice, pushed the loose puck past goalie Kristen Young (21 saves) at
the 3:47 mark.
The Tigers then pulled Young with two minutes to play, and Murphy
took advantage of a turnover in the neutral zone to deposit the
puck in the empty net.
It was the first two goals of the season for Murphy, who had
totaled one goal in her previous 39 career games.
Yale visits Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
