Box Score

HAMILTON, NY -- The Colgate University women's hockey team earned a 5-2 win over Union College on Friday, Jan. 11 at Starr Rink. Suzanne Ostrow (Boise, Idaho) notched her first career goal in the game, while Callee Heywood (Innisfail, Alberta) added her third tally of the season.

Union surprised Colgate by taking a 1-0 lead at 9:24 of the first period. Kelly Fleming(Lake Placid, N.Y.) had a shot blocked on the left side and the puck deflected back out onto the ice where Ostrow got to it and skated it behind the net before flicking it into the netting from the right side.

The Raiders capitalized on its first power-play opportunity to even the scoring at 1-1. Marissa Dombovy fed Mallory Johnston the puck and Johnston centered it to Beth Rotenberg who put the puck away from the slot at 12:55.

Dombovy gave Colgate the lead just under three minutes later when she found an Evan Minnick on the doorstep and batted it in. Junior defender Laura Jansen also earned an assist on the play.

The Dutchwomen tied the game up at 11:18 of the second, as Heywood scored a 5-on-3 power-play goal, but it was short lived as Hunt scored the eventual game winner at 14:58. Freshman Jessi Waters sent a pass to junior Clancy Todd and Todd slipped it to Hunt who went five hole on Union netminder Lundy Day (Cagary, Alberta).

Wolgemuth notched her first career goal early in the third period, extending Colgate's lead to 4-2. Dombovy sent a shot in on net that was stopped by Day but sent back out onto the ice on the right side and Wolgemuth was there to put it away. Rotenberg also received credit on the play.

Hunt displayed her stick skills to put the game away at 14:21. Johnston sent the puck down the ice to Katie Stewart on the right side of the net and Stewart sent it towards to net where Hunt skated across the ice and backhanded it over the goal line.

Colgate goaltender Lisa Plenderleith made 10 saves to earn her seventh win this season. Day stopped 48 shots for the Dutchwomen, as Colgate outshot Union, 53-12.

Each team went 1-for-4 on the power play.

The Dutchwomen are back in action at Cornell in a 4 p.m. game Saturday.
