Quinnipiac Sweeps Past Robert Morris
HAMDEN, CT -- Quinnipiac rolled to their second straight victory with a 3-1 win over Robert Morris. The Bobcats sweep the season series and improve to 5-0 all-time against the Colonials. Quinnipiac goes to 3-12-4 overall while Robert Morris drops to 10-11-1 on the season.
Elyse Cole (Belleville, Ont.) assisted on a two of Quinnipiac's three goals and Jamie Miller (Richmond Hill, Ont.) had 24 saves in goal for the Bobcats.
Quinnipiac got off to a fast start as Kallie Flor (Farmington, Minn.) continued her excellent play as of late, scoring the game's first goal just 3:14 into the game. Flor took a pass from Breana Burton (Surrey, B.C.) and knocked home her fifth goal of the season. Janine Duffy (Toronto, Ont.) also picked up an assist on the goal. Flor is now on a three-game point streak dating back to last week's Nutmeg Classic game against Niagara when she recorded three points.
The Bobcats would continue to come in waves as they had 16 shots on net in the first period, while holding the Colonials to just three shots on Miller in the opening frame.
Six minutes into the second period Robert Morris had their best opportunity to score when Kristen Miles took off on the right wing. Miller denied Miles on the breakaway and also stopped the Colonials on two subsequent attempts on net following Miles' drive on goal.
Duffy put the Bobcats' on top, 2-0, on a breakaway at the 13:36 mark. Cole snuck behind the net when RMU goalie Brianne McLauglin attempted to chase the puck behind the goal. Cole came up with the puck and fed Duffy behind both Robert Morris defensemen. The goal was Duffy's fourth of the season while Cole picked up her fourth assist of the year.
Robert Morris cut the Bobcats' lead in half on a goal by Megan Picinic with 41 seconds remaining in the game. Picinic was assisted by Beikirch and Miles for her fourth goal of the year. Beikirch picked her eighth assist while Miles converted on her seventh.
Erica Bolognino (Carol Stream, Ill.) put Quinnipiac back on top by two goals with her fourth goal of the year. Bolognino made the score 3-1 on assists from Cole and Brandice Moniz (Oakville, Ont.). Cole's assist was her second of the game while Moniz's assist was her team-leading ninth of the season.
The Bobcats return to action on Friday, Jan. 11 when they host Brown in an ECAC Hockey match-up set for a 7 p.m. start. The Bobcats then host in-state rival Yale on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 4 p.m.
