Cornell Stopped by Harvard
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--The Big Red women's ice
hockey team lost, 4-1, to third ranked Harvard on Friday night on
the road. Sophomore Laura Danforth scored Cornell's lone goal. The
Big Red moves to 6-3-1 for the season and 3-2-1 against ECAC Hockey
competition. Harvard improves to 12-1 for the season and is a
perfect 10-0 in league play.
The Crimson's Kate Buesser opened scoring at 10:53 of the first
period to give her team a one goal lead that it would take into the
second period.
Harvard scored two more unanswered goals in the second period,
before Danforth put the Big Red on the board at 10:24 of the third
while on the power play. Sophomore Melanie Jue and freshman Karlee
Overguard earned the assists.
Jenny Brine scored Harvard's final goal of the game at 16:37 of the
third period to help her team to end with a 4-1 victory.
Harvard outshot Cornell 38-20. The Big Red was 1-1 on the powerplay
while the Crimson was 2-4.
Christina Kessler earned her 11th win of the season making 19 saves
in net for Harvard. Sophomore Jenny Niesluchowski moves to 3-4
while making 34 saves.
The Big Red travels to Dartmouth on Saturday, Jan. 5. The two teams
will face off for a 4 p.m. start.
