Dartmouth Falls in Overtime to Colgate
Boxscore
HANOVER, N.H. -- Junior Sarah
Newnam (Clifton, Va.) netted a power play goal and classmate Carli
Clemis (Taber, Atla.) made 26 stops in net, but Colgate was able to
pull out the 2-1 overtime victory over the Big Green on Friday
night at Thompson Arena.
The Big Green (10-4-1, 7-3-0 ECAC) got on the board first at the
13:12 mark of the first period as junior Sarah
Newnam (Clifton, Va.) tallied her second goal of the season on the
5-on-3 advantage. Sophomore Sarah
Parsons (Dover, Mass.) slid a pass over to junior Maggie
Kennedy (West Hartford, Conn.) at the left circle, who found Newnam
all alone in the slot and she beat Colgate's freshman goaltender
Lisa Plenderleith to give the Big Green a 1-0 lead.
Dartmouth came out a little sluggish and allowed some odd-man
breaks to the Raiders, but junior netminder Carli
Clemis (Taber, Alta.) was up to the task and made eight saves in
the period.
The second period started out much like the first as Colgate had
multiple 2-on-1 break outs. Clemis was able to make each stop,
including an impressive save on Beth Rotenberg. Clemis sprawled
across the crease and denied Rotenberg at the far post to keep it a
one goal lead for the Big Green.
Plenderleith matched Clemis save-for-save as she stopped 12 shots
in the period to Clemis' 10 saves in the second.
The Raiders (7-8-2, 4-2-1 ECAC) broke through with their first of
the evening with 2:07 remaining in the period on a goal from Elin
Brown. Evan Minnick kicked the puck back to Brown on a face-off
from the right circle and Brown fired a shot through traffic and
inside the near post to tie the game at 1-1.
In the third period, it looked as if Dartmouth was going to take a
2-1 lead at the 16:00 mark as junior Marley
McMillan (St. Paul, Minn.) skated past the Colgate defense and put
a shot on net that forced the red light, but the goal was later
disallowed because it hit the post.
In the extra frame, Marissa Dombovy received a pass from Brown,
skated into the slot untouched and took a shot that trickled
between the legs of Clemis for the score. For Brown, it was her
second point of the night and Dombovy added her first goal of the
season.
The Big Green netted the lone power play goal in the game, but
Dartmouth was held scoreless on the man advantage on its next four
chances. Colgate had four opportunities on the power play and came
up empty all four times.
Clemis finished the game with 26 stops, while Plenderleith was
equally impressive in net with 27 stops between the pipes.
Dartmouth returns to action tomorrow afternoon as Ivy League foe
Cornell travels to Hanover for a 4 p.m. face-off at Thompson Arena.
