Dutchwomen Drop Season Finale
PROVIDENCE, RI -- Senior captains Hayley Moore and Rylee Olewinski combined for five points in their final game, leading the Brown women's hockey team (5-19-5, 4-12-4 ECAC Hockey) to a 3-1 victory over Union (3-27-2, 0-20-2 ECAC Hockey) at Meehan Auditorium on Saturday. Moore figured in all three goals, scoring one and assisting the other two, while Olewinski had two helpers of her own.
Also highlighting the game was junior goaltender Nicole Stock, who finished the season with 1,004 saves, far more than the previous Brown record of 681. She became the second goaltender in the country to pass 1,000 saves this season; coincidentally, Union's Lundy Day (Calgary, Alb.), who made 22 stops in the loss, was the first.
Union got on the board first at 2:59. With the teams skating four-on-four, Dutchwoman sophomore Courtney Chais (Plantation, Fla.) flipped a backhand over Stock's outstretched right pad and glove hand. Elsa Perushek (Maple Grove, Minn.) and Suzanne Ostrow (Boise, Idaho) earned assists on the play.
The Bears quickly tied the game, scoring less than two minutes later. Sophomore Sasha Van Muyen took a shot from the right point that deflected off of Olewinski and past Day. Moore and Olewinski assisted on the goal, Van Muyen's third of the year. Moore gave Brown the lead for good at 18:33 on a power play, skating in from Day's right and waiting until the goaltender made a move, slipping the puck past her left skate. The goal was Moore's team-leading 13th of the season, with assists going to sophomores Andrea Hunter and Jenny Cedorchuk.
Freshman Erica Kromm added an insurance goal 2:33 into the second period while the Bears were skating with a five-on-three advantage. She took a shot from the right point that was deflected past Day for her sixth of the year. Again, Moore and Olewinski earned assists, their 15th and ninth, respectively.
The game wraps up the season for the Dutchwomen.
