
Quinnipiac Loses Season Finale to St. Lawrence
CANTON, NY -- The Quinnipiac women's ice hockey team concluded the 2007-2008 season with a 9-1 loss against St. Lawrence Saturday afternoon at Appleton Arena. The Bobcats finish the year 5-24-5 overall with a 2-16-4 mark in the ECAC Hockey League.
The Saints started the scoring just 4:49 into the game on a Kristen Roach goal. Lisa Bachelor and Courtney Sawchuk picked up helpers on Roach's sixth goal of the season. Just over four minutes later, the Saints made it 2-0 on the power play as Sabrina Harbec beat Jamie Miller (Richmond Hill, Ontario) for her 15th goal. Annie Guay was credited with the only assist. Miller turned away 21 in the opening frame as the Saints outshot the Bobcats 23-4 in the period and took a two-goal lead into the first intermission.
The Saints scored their third goal a little less than two minutes into the second. Alison Domenico scored her third of the season against the Bobcats 1:43 into the middle frame. Jordan Pyers scored two goals a little more than six minutes apart, making it a 5-0 game.
The Bobcats finally got on the board at the 13:00 mark in the second as Danielle Alexieff (Middletown, N.J.) scored her second goal of the year. Trudy Reyns (Port Hope, Ontario) picked up her second assist of the weekend on the goal, while Elyse Cole (Belleville, Onatrio) collected her first assist since Jan. 11 in a game against Brown. The goal was also Alexieff's second career tally after she scored her first on a break-away against Yale on Jan. 12 at the TD Banknorth Sports Center.
The Saints scored four third period goals. Habrec and Domenico each added their second, giving St. Lawrence three players with two goals in the game. Quinnipiac failed to convert on any of their four power-play opportunities in the third period as Meghan Guckian only had to make four saves in the period.
The Saints outshot the Bobcats in the game, 51-15. Quinnipiac held St. Lawrence to just one goal with nine power-play opportunities
