Quinnipiac Enjoys Three-Point Weekend

Boxscore

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Elyse Cole (Belleville, Ontario) became the third different Bobcat player to record two goals in a game this weekend as Quinnipiac played to a 3-3 draw with Yale University at Ingalls Rink Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats took three of four possible conference points this weekend after defeating Brown Friday night. The tie makes the Bobcats' record 5-20-5 overall and 2-12-5 in the ECAC Hockey League. Yale now sports a 9-10-6 record and is 6-8-4 in ECAC play.

Cole got the Bobcats on the board just 2:40 into the first period on a break-away goal. She received a pass at her own blueline from Anny Kallum (Gothenberg, Sweden) on the half boards and took it the length of the ice before scoring on her backhand, beating Yale goaltender Jackie Snikeris for her 12th goal of the season. Kallum's assist was her second of the year.

Yale evened the score with 3:33 remaining in the opening period on a power-play goal by Crysti Howser. Howser slammed home a loose puck to the left of Tia Wishart (Vancouver Island, British Columbia) after three Yale players had converged on the Quinnipiac net, making it difficult for Wishart to see. Mandi Schwartz and Samantha MacLean picked up helpers on Howser's seventh goal of the season.

The Bobcats regained the lead, 2-1, when Cole scored her second of the game on the power play 3:23 into the middle frame. Kallie Flor (Farmington, Minn.) skated into the slot before dropping a pass to Kelley Davies (Chesapeake, Vir.) for a shot on goal. Davies' shot was kicked aside to the wide-open Cole stationed to the right of Snikeris where she slammed home the rebound into the open net. Both Davies and Flor were credited with assists on Cole's 13th goal.

Vicky Graham (Glen Riddle, Pa.) appeared to score her record-tying 36th career goal when she toe-dragged the puck around a defenseman and flicked the puck over the Yale netminder. A back-checking Bulldog defender was able to stop to the puck just before it crossed the line and clear it away.

Yale tied the game 2-2 almost three minutes into the final frame. Yale's Ketchum scored a rebound goal after being denied by Wishart on her first three shot attempts. Ketchum was able to put the puck between the post and the arm of the Bobcat netminder for the goal.

It didn't take Quinnipiac long to regain the lead with a goal just over a minute and a half later. Antoinette Maldonado's (Glendora, Calif.) shot sailed over Snickeris before ringing off the right post and settling just above the top of the crease. Davies slapped the loose puck through a crowd in front of the open goal mouth and into the net, giving the Bobcats the lead, 3-2. Maldonado recorded her third assist, while Danielle Alexieff (Middletown, N.J.) picked up her first career assist on the goal.

Yale tied the game 3-3 with just 2:26 left in the third on another Howser rebound goal. A shot from the point found its way through traffic and onto the stick of Wishart who appeared to have the puck covered, but after two whacks Howser was able to sneak the puck past the sprawling Bobcat goalie.

After matching penalties, the overtime period began 4-on-4 for the first 1:38. Yale's Helen Resor made a toe-drag move around a Bobcat defender and tried to slide the puck around Wishart's right leg, but the Quinnipiac netminder was able to get her pad on the puck to preserve the tie.

Wishart recorded her second straight fifty-save performance and her third this season, while Yale's Snickeris stopped 23 Quinnipiac shots in the game. The Bobcats finished 1-6 on the power play with Yale faring no better, going 1-7 with the player advantage.

The Bobcats return to action Friday, Feb. 15 as they host Dartmouth at 7 p.m. The game will also mark the beginning of Quinnipiac's turn to host a "Pink At The Rink" weekend series. Quinnipiac takes on Harvard Crimson Saturday afternoon at 4p.m. on Senior Day at the TD Banknorth Sports Center.
