
Quinnipiac Knocks Off Brown
PROVIDENCE, RI -- Freshman Brandice Moniz (Oakville, Ont.) scored a pair of goals and assisted on another, but it was senior Antoinette Maldonado's (Glendora, Calif.) second goal of the night with under three minutes to play that gave Quinnipiac the 5-4 lead and the ECAC Hockey win. The Bobcats improve to 5-20-4 overall and 2-12-4 in ECAC Hockey play. Brown goes to 3-17-4 overall and 2-12-3 in ECAC Hockey action.
Moniz scored on a power play goal at the 13:03 mark of the first period on a pass from Breana Burton (Surrey, B.C.). The goal was Moniz's third of the season while Burton picks up her fifth assist of the season.
After Brown tied the game at the 14:12 mark on Hayley Moore's 11th goal, Maldonado netted her first goal of the game just 41 seconds later to give Quinnipiac a 2-1 lead. The goal was Maldonado's third of the season and also came on the power play. She was assisted on the play by Moniz, who picked up 11th assist, and Trudy Reyns (Port Hope, Ont.), who converted her ninth assist of the season.
Sasha Van Muyen tied the game for Brown again, this time on assists from Moore and Rylee Olewinski. The assist was Olewinski's second of the game, as she also assisted on Moore's goal a few minutes earlier.
Janine Duffy (Toronto, Ont.) scored her fifth goal of the season just 35 seconds into the final period to give Quinnipiac a 3-2 lead. Duffy's goal came unassisted.
Brown answered with a pair of unanswered goals to give the Bears a 4-3 lead on their home ice. Erica Kromm scored her fourth goal at the 5:46 mark on assists from Andrea Hunter and Moore. Moore then assisted on her third goal of the night with just over six minutes to play on a pass to Jaclyn Small for her first goal of the season.
Moniz tied the game at the 13:58 mark when she took a pass from Kallie Flor (Farmington, Minn.). Flor was set up by Burton, who picked up her second point of the game and sixth assist of the year, and then found Moniz to tie the game. Maldonado gave Quinnipiac the final lead of the game with 3:13 remaining in regulation. Maldonado was assisted by Vicky Graham (Glen Riddle, Pa.) and Kelley Davies (Chesapeake, Virg.).
In goal, Quinnipiac's Tia Wishart (Vancouver Island, B.C.) stopped 50 shots on goal while allowing four goals over 60 minutes. Wishart stopped 24 shots in the second period alone. Brown's Nicole Stock had 21 saves for the game. The 50-save game was Wishart second of her career.
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 4 p.m. at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Conn.
