
Colgate Slides Past Cornell
ITHACA, NY -- The Big Red women's ice hockey team lost, 2-1, to Colgate on Saturday evening. The two teams split a home-and-home series in ECAC Hockey action this weekend. Cornell moves to 10-11-1 overall and is 7-8-1 against league opponents.
Colgate's Marissa Dombovy took advantage of a four-on-three power play opportunity to put the Raiders on the board for the first time at 16:32 of the first period. Mallory Johnston and Kira Dosdall earned the assists. At 1:52 of the second period, Beth Rotenberg lengthened Colgate's lead to 2-0.
The Big Red pummeled Colgate goaltender Lisa Plederleith with shots, but could not get the puck past her.
Cornell pulled goaltender Katie Wilson with 1:50 remaining in the game in favor of the extra attacker. At 19:39 of the third, freshman Rebecca Johnston scored Cornell's lone goal of the night with assists going to Brittany Forgues and Liz Zorn.
The Big Red outshot Colgate 42-28. Wilson made 26 saves while Plenderleith made 41.
Cornell will be back in action next weekend in Lynah Rink as it plays host to Clarkson and St. Lawrence during Pink at the Rink weekend. The Big Red will play in pink jerseys to support Coaches vs. Cancer.
