SCHENECTADY, NY -- Kelly Babstock scored an unassisted goal at the 8:10 mark of the first period to give the Toronto Aeros a 1-0 exhibition win over Union College game Friday afternoon. Danielle Kimble (Reston, VA) made 29 saves in net for the Dutchwomen.
The Dutchwomen made offensive improvements in the second and third periods. After being outshot in the first period 10-3, the Dutchwomen kept the Aeros within reach, outshot only 20-17 over the final two periods.
Following the Aeros' goal, the Dutchwomen made a strong surge to get on the board. Kristin Hissong (Littleton, CO) sent a pass to Brenna Malnar (Soughgate, MI) who fired from the right faceoff circle, but Toronto goalie Nicole Paniccia snagged it with her glove.
On a third period power play, Suzy Pocock (Sterling Heights, MI) fired as she crashed in down the left, but Aeros replacement netminder Lindsey Park made the stop. Park was unable to control the rebound and Pocock kept jabbing at the puck, collecting three more shots from close range, but Park came up with the saves.
Marissa Gentile (Groton, MA) forced a turnover as the Aeros attempted to clear the zone, and skated in toward the left of the net, but her wrister went just wide.
The Dutchwomen return to action Friday, December 15 at 3:00 in another exhibition game against the Toronto Aeros.
