No. 5 St. Lawrence Holds off Yale
New Haven, C.T. - No. 5 St. Lawrence scored twice in the third
period, including an empty-netter, to avoid an upset bid by Yale
with a 3-1 win over the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at Ingalls
Rink. The Bulldogs got 34 saves from senior goaltender Shivon
Zilis, who has allowed only two goals in her last 112:47 and is
fourth in the country in save percentage (.941).
After a scoreless first period, Carson Duggan gave the Saints a 1-0
lead three minutes into the second with her 11th goal of
the year. The Bulldogs evened the game during a 5-on-3 with two
minutes left in the period, as junior forward Sarah Tittman wristed
one past Meaghan Guckian (24 saves) off assists by freshman forward
Bray Ketchum and junior forward Crysti Howser.
Kirsten Roach broke the tie 1:34 into the third, and the Saints
held off a late flurry by Yale with Zilis pulled. Kerri Wallace put
the game away by finding the net from her own defensive zone with
39 seconds left.
Yale returns to the ice Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Providence.
