Special Teams Power Clarkson Past Brown
PROVIDENCE, RI -- Thanks to a pair of
specialty-team goals in the second period, the Clarkson University
Women's Hockey team picked up its second straight win in ECAC
Hockey play with a 2-1 win over Brown University on Saturday
afternoon.
The Golden Knights improved to 12-4-2 overall and 5-3 in the ECAC,
holding on to fourth place in the conference standings among the 12
league combatants. Brown dropped to 1-10-1 and 1-7-1 in league
play. Clarkson is off until the first weekend of January when the

Though Clarkson dominated play from a shots
standpoint, the Knights and Bears were scoreless after the first
period. It wasn't until the second frame that Clarkson got on the
scoreboard when senior Amanda Dittmer (Chatham, ONT) scored her
first goal of the season at 3:21 from classmate Brooke Beazer
(Kingston, ONT). Dittmer's power-play goal. Just a few minutes
later, sophomore Genevieve Lavoie (Delson, QUE) scored her sixth
goal of the season and third power-play marker of the year with
assists going to freshman Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) and
classmate Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT).
With a 2-0 lead, the Knights saw their penalty-killing unit take a
hit when the Bears cut the advantage in half with a power-play goal
at 8:25. Hayley Moore scored from Erin Conners and Erica Kromm
midway through the second, but no more goals would be scored for
the remainder of the contest.
The Knights finished with an overwhelming 39-17 lead in shots,
including a 25-10 advantage through the first two periods. Eve
Grandmont-Berube (Drummondville, QUE) came within one shot of
recording her fifth shutout of the season as she made 16 saves in
60 minutes. Nicole Stock stopped 37 shots for the Bears.
