Knights Fall to Top-Ranked Harvard

Box Score

Cambridge, MA -- A record-breaking season for the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team appears to have come to a close as the Golden Knights fell to top-ranked Harvard 3-0 in the semifinals of the ECAC Hockey Tournament in Cambridge, MA on Saturday afternoon.

Ranked ninth in the country, Clarkson owns a 24-9-5 overall record. The Knights hold out a slight hope for a berth in the eight-team NCAA Tournament, which will be announced on Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m.

Seeded fourth in the league tournament, the Knights played the country's number-one rated team even for nearly 40 minutes on its home ice before the Crimson pulled away to improve their record to 30-1-0.

Clarkson had the better of the play in the first period, out shooting Harvard 4-3, and came out strong to start the second. The Knights, however, could not convert on the first three power plays of the game, and the Crimson slowly started to gain control.

Harvard scored the only goal it would need with less than two minutes to play in the middle frame with Katharine Chute connecting on a wrist shot from the slot.

The Crimson scored on its only power play opportunity at 4:11 of the third with Jenny Brine knocking in a rebound. At 9:58, Liza Ryabkina tallied an unassisted goal to make it 3-0.

Harvard out shot the Knights 21-13, including an 18-9 advantage over the final two periods. Freshman Eve Grandmont Berube (Drummondville, QUE) posted 18 stops for the Green and Gold.

Clarkson was 0-of-5 on the power play.
