Big Red Season Comes To End

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- The Big Red women's hockey team finished its season on Saturday after falling to No. 1 Harvard 4-2 in the ECAC Hockey quarterfinals. The Big Red finished its season with a 12-17-1 overall record.  

The Crimson jumped out to an early lead when Sarah Vaillancourt scored shorthanded at 1:09 of the first period.   Harvard's Caitlin Cahow lengthened her team's advantage to two at 5:42 of the second period when she scored on the power play.   Sophomore forward Liz Zorn brought the Big Red within a goal less than four minutes later when she scored on the power play off assists by freshmen Rebecca Johnston and Sam Wauer.  

Harvard got off to a quick start in the third period when Sarah Wilson scored Harvard's third goal with only 15 seconds off the clock.   Freshman Hayley Hughes scored her second goal of the weekend less than a minute later to once again bring the Big Red within a goal. Brittany Forgues and Caeleigh Beerworth picked up the assists.  

The Big Red pulled its goaltender in favor of an extra attacker, but Harvard scored on the empty net at 19:21.  

Sophomore goaltender Jenny Niesluchowski made 49 saves in net for Cornell, while the Crimson's Christina Kessler made 27. Cornell is the only team this season to score two or more goals against Harvard in in two games.
