Clarkson, Colgate, St. Lawrence Sweep Weekend

Harvard takes two from top 10 team

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Three ECAC Hockey League teams picked up four points in the league standings over the weekend, as Clarkson, Colgate and St. Lawrence all swept their opponents. Cornell and Rensselaer also picked up two, as they split their weekend games. Harvard had success out of league play, as the Crimson downed a nationally-ranked opponent twice at home.

St. Lawrence and Clarkson swept Brown and Yale on Friday and Saturday nights in games played in the North Country. The Saints earned 8-0 and 7-3 wins over the Bears and Bulldogs, respectively, while the Knights won 4-2 vs. Yale and 4-1 vs. Brown.

Clarkson's Genevieve Lavoie was the standout star of the weekend, as she earned both Player and Rookie of the Week honors after posting hat tricks in both of the Golden Knights' wins. The winger led the league with eight points in all and scored both winning tallies for her squad.

The Saints saw senior forward Chelsea Grills reach the 100-point milestone over the weekend, becoming just the 10th player in program history to hit that career mark. She posted a total of five points on the weekend (three goals, two assists) and now has exactly 100 points with 43 goals and 57 assists.

Colgate earned its wins by blanking both Union (8-0) and Rensselaer (1-0). Brook Wheeler earned co-Goalie of the Week honors by posting both shutouts and making 39 saves in all. Ali Edell and Sam Hunt had hat tricks vs. the Dutchwomen.

Cornell's single win of the weekend was a 4-0 effort vs. Union, while Rensselaer earned its win with an 8-2 win vs. the Big Red. Cornell's Brittany Forgues had two goals in her team's win, while Sarah Daniel had two goals in the Engineers' victory.

Harvard's Christina Kessler shared the goalie honors after blanking then No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth 4-0 on Saturday. The Crimson started the weekend of with a 3-1 victory. Offensively, Sarah Vaillancourt led the way with six points on two goals and four assists.

Quinnipiac and Princeton both had out-of-league games with the Bobcats splitting its week, and the Tigers falling twice to No. 1 Mercyhurst. Quinnipiac's win came over Robert Morris and was the biggest comeback in program history, as the Bobcats were down 3-0 before rallying to win 4-3 in overtime. Antoinette Maldonado netted the winner.

Lavoie led the league over the weekend with eight points on six goals and two assists. She had a hat trick in each weekend game and netted the winning goals. Overall, she had a hand in all eight of Clarkson's weekend scores.

Kessler earned her second consecutive shutout with 20 saves in the Crimson's 4-0 win vs. No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth.

Wheeler led the Raiders to a weekend road sweep of league opponents and both were shutouts. She had 39 saves in all.

TEAM NOTES

Brown: This weekend was the first this season that no Bears scored their first career goal or assist ... The junior and freshman classes have all but two of Brown's 22 goals and three of the team's 21 assists.

Clarkson: Clarkson owns a season-long, five-game winning streak and have won seven of its last eight ... Three freshmen lead the Knights in scoring with Genevieve Lavoie on top with 21 points (14-7), including 13 goals and two assists in the last seven games. Britney Selina, who has six points (3-3) in the last three games, follows with 17 points (6-11). Defenseman Carlee Eusepi, with a five-game point scoring streak, is third in scoring with 12 points (2-10).

Colgate: Colgate shut out Union and Rensselaer over the weekend, and it was the first time the Raiders' have swept on the road since Feb. 2005 and the first time they've recorded two shutouts in a weekend since Jan. 2002 when they defeated DIII Utica 11-0 and 7-0 ... The Raiders came within one shot of a school-record 59 shots on goal, when they put 58 on net in the game against Union. Colgate's first two goals in the 8-0 win were scored 16 seconds apart, the fourth fastest scoring span in program history.

Cornell: The Big Red snapped a 10-game losing streak Saturday when it blanked Union, 4-0 on Saturday. Freshman goaltender Jenny Niesluchowski earned her first career shutout stopping all 21 of Union's shots ... Junior Brittany Forgues had five points for the weekend scoring two goals and notching three assists ... Cornell will be off until after the holidays, when it will face Providence, Jan. 2.

Dartmouth: The Big Green play host to Providence College on Friday for its first home game in nearly a month. Entering the weekend, seniors Cherie Piper and Gillian Apps both have a four-game point streak running ... Sophomore Julia Bronson remains the leagues leader in points by a defenseman, as she's tallied 14 points in 10 games. All Bronson's points have been assists.

Harvard: The Crimson extended its winning streak to eight games with a pair of non-league wins against No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth. The eight-game winning streak is the longest active streak in Division I women's hockey ... Jenny Brine has scored at least one point in all 11 games this season. Julie Chu has scored at least one point in each of the last 15 games in which she's played, dating to 2004-05.

Princeton: After opening the season with a 10-game unbeaten streak, the Tigers are now winless in four after being swept by top-ranked Mercyhurst ... Two of Princeton's last three games against a top-ranked team have gone to overtime. Princeton tied St. Lawrence last season 1-1, and lost to Mercyhurst 1-0 in overtime on Saturday.

Quinnipiac: Quinnipiac rallied from three goals down to defeat Robert Morris, 4-3, in OT on Sunday. It was the greatest comeback in program history ... Defenders Nicolette Leone and Karrah Stephen each set single season career highs when they each scored their fourth goals of the year ... Elyse Cole's seventh goal of the season vs. Robert Morris was a single season career high and Hayley McMeekin's two assists vs. the Colonials was also a career high.

Rensselaer: The Engineers posted eight goals on Friday and were led by Kelly Barbera and Sarah Daniel netting two each ... Overall, 14 players tallied at least one point in the game ... Through 17 games, 18 players have tallied a point, including 16 with multiple points ... RPI battles Union this weekend in a home-and-home series. The Engineers lead the all-time series 13-2-1 and is unbeaten in six of its last seven games against Union.

St. Lawrence: After downing Brown and Yale over the weekend, the Saints have now won five straight against the Bears and remain unbeaten against the Bulldogs (20-0-1 all-time) ... After playing the opening 15 games of the season without tallying a short-handed goal, the Saints have now scored one in each of the last three games ...

Union: Elise Nichols led the Dutchwomen with five shots over the weekend ... Union wraps up the first half of the season with a home-and-home series with Rensselaer next weekend ... The games mark the first ECACHL contests between the two teams

Yale: With two assists on Friday, Kristin Savard moved into a tie for seventh all-time at Yale in that category (42) and also moved to eighth all-time in points (75) ... Savard has seven points (2-5-7) in her last six games ... Carry Resor has gone 20 games without incurring a penalty ... Crysti Howser won 24 of 35 face-offs vs. SLU, the second time in the last three games she has won at least two-thirds of her draws.
