Dartmouth and Princeton Both Earn Four ECACHL Points

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Dartmouth and Princeton both earned four ECAC Hockey League points over the weekend, as the two teams swept their road games. Harvard, Quinnipiac, St. Lawrence and Yale also earned victories, as the teams all split their weekend games.

Princeton leads the early season race with nine points and an unbeaten record of 4-0-1 in league play and 4-0-2 overall. The Tigers extended that mark over the weekend with their victories over Brown and Yale. Brittany Salmon earned Player of the Week honors after scoring three of the Orange and Black's goals over the weekend, including two on special teams vs. Brown and the game winner vs. Yale. Overall, the Tigers are off to their best start in school history -- Princeton was unbeaten in five games to start the 1979-80, 1980-81 and 1994-95 seasons.

Dartmouth gained its four points with wins over St. Lawrence and Clarkson. Friday's win was a big one, as the Saints were ranked third in the nation, while Saturday was a shutout. Goaltender of the Week Carli Clemis stopped 51 of the shots she faced in the two games, including 28 in the whitewash of the Golden Knights.

Harvard and Quinnipiac earned their wins over Clarkson and Brown, respectively. St. Lawrence claimed its victory over the Crimson and Yale beat the Bobcats.

The Crimson blanked the Knights on Friday night behind the efforts of Sarah Vaillancourt and Jenny Brine, who each scored. The Bobcats earned their first-ever win over Brown with their five goals coming from five different players. Kristin Emerick's empty-net tally late in the third period proved to be the winner.

St. Lawrence and Harvard traded goals before Britni Smith put the Saints up for good in the second period. Meaghan Guckian earned the win between the pipes after making 24 saves. Denise Soesilo led the Bulldogs over the weekend with three points, including a goal and an assist on the winner vs. Quinnipiac. She was named Rookie of the Week for her efforts.

In non-league games over the weekend, Union earned its second sweep of the year with two victories vs. Sacred Heart and Rensselaer split its series with Robert Morris. Cornell had two tough games in Detroit against Wayne State and dropped both, while Colgate lost two hard fought games to nationally ranked Mercyhurst.

Salmon scored three of Princeton's five goals over the weekend as Princeton swept Brown and Yale. Salmon scored both goals in the win vs. Brown (SHG and PPG) and had the winner vs. Yale.

Clemis stopped 51 shots over the weekend, including 28 in a 2-0 blanking of Clarkson.

Soesilo picked up three points over the weekend, including goals in both games and an assist on the game winner vs. Quinnipiac.

TEAM NOTES

Brown: The Bears have been outshot 168-91 in five games this season. This weekend alone, they were outshot 71-27 ... All three Brown goaltenders have played this season. As a unit, they have a 3.22 GAA and a .910 save percentage ... This past weekend, Elizabeth Denis got her first career goal and Erin Connors and Kath Surbey got their first career assists.

Clarkson: Seven of Clarkson's first 10 games have been against Top-10 ranked teams with the Knights going 0-5-2 in those contests ... The Knights out shot both Harvard and Dartmouth over the weekend by a combined 53-34 margin, but suffered a pair of 2-0 losses ... A tough trend continued for the Knights in the loss to Dartmouth, as the Big Green scored just 18 seconds in. Clarkson has allowed a goal in the opening minute in four of its five losses this season.

Colgate: Colgate lost two games to No. 3 Mercyhurst over the weekend. It was the second time this season the Raiders have played one of the top three teams in the nation ... Sam Hunt led the Raiders in scoring with two assists and Tara French picked up her first point of the season with Friday's opening goal ... Colgate looks for its first wins over perennial powers Harvard and Dartmouth this weekend.

Cornell: Freshman goaltender Jenny Niesluchowski made her first collegiate appearance in net Saturday making 36 saves and starting off the season with a .926 save percentage ... Brianne Schmidt notched the opening goal in both games this weekend.

Dartmouth: After two straight weeks of ECAC Hockey League play the Big Green is a perfect 4-0-0. The team's 3-2 upset at No. 5 St. Lawrence Friday night moved the Big Green to the top of the league rankings ... The Big Green's next six games are ECACHL contests.

Harvard: Harvard extended its streak of shutout hockey to three games to start the 2006-07 season by virtue of its 2-0 whitewash of Clarkson before St. Lawrence ended the run 12:07 into Harvard's fourth game of the season ... Harvard continues to lead D- I women's hockey in offense (6.25 gpg), defense (1.00 gapg) and scoring margin (+5.25) ... Harvard will be without the services of Julie Chu (USA), Caitlin Cahow (USA) and Sarah Vaillancourt (Canada) for this weekend's league games, as they compete in the Four Nations Cup.

Princeton: Princeton's season-opening unbeaten streak reached six games with its sweep of Brown and Yale. It marks the best start in Princeton history. Princeton was unbeaten in five games to start the 1979-80, 1980-81 and 1994-95 season ... A season ago, the Priceton-Brown road weekend was the only league weekend of the season that the Tigers did not earn at least one win.

Quinnipiac: Sunday's win was the Bobcats' first-ever victory over Brown in the five-game series history. Quinnipiac had been outscored 23-5 against Brown in the four previous meetings. However, they potted five on Sunday ... Quinnipiac's 21 goals this season have come from 10 different players ... The sophomore class has also accounted for every GWG in ECACHL games dating back to last season.

Rensselaer: The Engineers return to ECACHL action this weekend at Quinnipiac and Princeton ... Saturday's game marks the first ever contest between Rensselaer and Princeton ... Through 11 games, 14-of-19 players have tallied a point, including twelve with multiple points.

St. Lawrence: Annie Guay had her seven-game point streak snapped this weekend. However, Marianna Locke (3g,2a) pushed her point streak to three and Abbie Bullard began a two-game assist streak against the Big Green and Crimson ... Crystal Connors has a chance to etch their names into the SLU record books this weekend vs. New Hampshire. Connors needs four points to become only the 10th player in school history to record 100 career points.

Union: All 18 of Union's skaters registered a point over the weekend ... Union's eight goals in each game marked the highest-scoring affair for the Dutchwomen in their DI history ... The 8-1 margin of victory is also the largest since the program's move to DI ... The weekend sweep of Sacred Heart extends Union's win streak against the Pioneers to 11 games.

Yale: Helen Resor, who has had a hand in six of Yale's 12 goals on the year (1g, 5a), is away with Team USA for the Four Nations Cup this week ... Yale head coach Hilary Witt is also with Team USA as an assistant on Mark Johnson's staff ... Crysti Howser and Maggie Westfal rejoined the hockey team Sunday after the conclusion of soccer season.
