ECACHL Women Back in Action

ALBANY, N.Y. -- After a quiet start to 2007, all of the women's teams in the ECAC Hockey League were back in action over the weekend. Dartmouth and Harvard continue to roll, as they both swept their league opponents over the weekend. Yale also earned four points with two wins in conference play, while Brown earned three points with a win and a tie. Rensselaer picked up one point on the weekend, as it tied the Bears. In non-conference action, three league teams earned wins.

The Big Green and Crimson earned their weekend wins over Princeton and Quinnipiac. The travel partners shared Player of the Week honors, as Dartmouth's Gillian Apps and Harvard's Julie Chu earned this week's award. Apps had four points on the weekend, including three goals, while Chu had three points, including a power-play marker. The Big Green's Sarah Parsons also had a strong weekend with five points (1 goal, four assists) in the wins. Both of Harvard's wins were shutouts, while Dartmouth blanked the Bobcats and allowed just one goal to the Tigers. The Crimson's Christina Kessler was named Rookie of the Week for stopping all 30 shots vs. Princeton.

Just two points separate the Dartmouth and Harvard in the league standings and the long-time foes will face off against each other for the second time this season on Friday night. Dartmouth won the earlier meeting between the two squads.

Yale earned its wins on the road, shutting out both Union and Rensselaer. Shivon Zilis was named Goaltender of the Week after earning both blankings for the Bulldogs.

Brown's earned its three points after tying the Engineers 2-2 and downing Union 5-2. Rylee Olewinski led the Bears with three goals and a +4 rating over the weekend.

In non-league action, teams earned three wins, as Clarkson shut out Northeastern, St. Lawrence downed Northeastern and Colgate beat Wayne State. The Golden Knights blanked the Huskies as did the Raiders vs. the Warriors. The Saints also tied Boston College over the weekend.

Julie had two goals and an assist in wins over Quinnipiac and Princeton. One of her markers was a PPG.

Zilis extended her scoreless streak in net to 160:24 after posting back-to-back shutouts over the weekend. She made 34 stops in the two wins.

ECACHL Rookie of the Week
CHRISTINA KESSLER -- Harvard
Goaltender * Oakville, Ont.
Kessler made 30 saves, including 17 in the third period, to pick up her third shutout in six career starts for the Crimson.

TEAM NOTES

Brown: Senior Crystal Tasman played in her first games of the season this weekend, getting an assist in each game ... Hailey Moore has goals in her last three games, while Rylee Olewinski has goals in three of her last four games. Andrea Hunter has four assists and five points in Brown¹s last three games. Heather Lane has three assists in four games ... The Bears are 3-2-2 in their last seven after dropping their first nine games.

Clarkson: Clarkson ran its school-record winning streak to eight games with a W at Northeastern before suffering its first loss since Nov. 17 with Saturday's setback at Boston College ... Clarkson closed out the non-league portion of its schedule with an 8-3-1 mark outside the ECACHL ... Two freshmen lead the Knights in scoring with Genevieve Lavoie (17-8-25) and Britney Salina (7-11-18) paced the Clarkson offense.

Colgate: Colgate, which received a vote in last week's USCHO.com poll, split with Wayne State over the weekend. The Raiders and Warriors have split in every series they've played, totaling seven since they began playing in two-game sets since 2000 ... The win on Friday marked Colgate's first win over a non-conference opponent this season. The Raiders are now 1-7-1 against non-league teams, with three of those loses coming against ranked teams. However the Raiders are 7-3 in the league to sit in fourth place in the ECACHL standings.

Cornell: Cornell was swept at No. 1 Mercyhurst over the weekend ... Haling Krista Lyn scored a goal in both games against the Lakers, while goaltender Beth Baryonic made 72 saves in net.

Dartmouth: With the two wins over the weekend, Dartmouth now holds the nation's longest unbeaten streak at 10 games ... Captain Gillian Apps remains on a 10-game point streak after picking up four points on the weekend ... With 16 goals on the season Apps is the nation's second-leading scorer.

Harvard: Harvard registered shutouts vs. Princeton and Quinnipiac over the weekend, marking the Crimson's second back-to-back shutouts of the season. The Crimson has not allowed a goal in its last 121 minutes, 14 seconds ... Harvard is 9-0-1 at home this year and has registered shutouts in four of its last five home games ... Harvard looks to regain a share of first place in the ECACHL standings with this Friday's home game vs. Dartmouth. Both schools will enter the game with 14-3-1 records, while the Crimson sits two points behind the Big Green in the standings.

Princeton: After starting the season 8-0-2 in its first 10 games, Princeton went 2-8-0 in its next 10 games ... Princeton dropped both games last weekend despite out-shooting Harvard and have shots even with Dartmouth ... Kim Pearce added her team-leading 20th point in Saturday's loss at Dartmouth

Quinnipiac: The Bobcats have now faced 10 nationally ranked opponents this season. This matches a program record from the 2001-02 and 2005-06 seasons ... Quinnipiac top seven scorers are all freshmen and sophomores ... Quinnipiac will be play its first game in the TD Bank north Sports Center on Jan. 27 against No. 1 Mercyhurst. It will be the first ice hockey game played in the new facility.

Rensselaer: Rensselaer is now 6-3-1 in its last 10 games, including league victories over Quinnipiac, Cornell and Union (2) and a tie against Brown ... Whitney Nyasaland is ranked 12th nationally and third among all ECACHL players in rookie scoring (0.90 peg.) ... Through 19 games, 18-of-19 players have all tallied multiple points ... RPI is 13th in the nation and fourth among all ECACHL teams in offensive scoring (3.10 points per game) having tallied 65 goals in 21 games.

St. Lawrence: St. Lawrence finished its regular season non-conference schedule this past weekend with a 1-0-1 mark at Boston College and Northeastern. The Saints finished 8-2-2 out of the ECACHL this season.

Union: The Dutchwomen's two goals against Brown mark the first multiple-goal league game for Union since Nov. 11 vs. Quinnipiac. Union had four goals in that game and host the Bobcats next weekend ... Union has not allowed an opponent a PPG in 131:31, spanning three games ... Suzy Petcock picked up her first goal in a league game this season against Brown, while Kelly Lana recorded her second.

Yale: Jenna Spring has six points (3-3-6) in her last four games. Her two goals and one assist over the weekend moved her into a tie for seventh all-time at Yale in goals (38) and a tie for ninth all-time at Yale in points (74) ... Sheila Zinger, has six points in her last five games ... Yale's seniors have tied the school record for wins by a class (48), set last season ... Yale has won four in a row, including three shutouts.
