Liegl Fills Out Rensselaer Women's Hockey Staff
TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) director of athletics Ken Ralph has announced the hiring of Josh Liegl as women's ice hockey assistant coach. A former assistant at Colgate University, he will aide fourth-year head coach John Burke.
"We're extremely excited to have Josh join our staff," said Burke. "He has a proven track record, in both coaching and recruiting. His experience in the ECAC Hockey League will help with our transition into the conference."
"It's a very exciting time to be a part of Rensselaer women's hockey," said Liegl. "It's a great opportunity to work with Coach Burke and the outstanding RPI staff. I am looking forward to the challenges of ECACHL league play with our student-athletes."
A native of Fond du Lac, Wis., Liegl spent the last two years as an assistant at Colgate. During his tenure he helped guide the Raiders to consecutive winning seasons in ECACHL play and back-to-back appearances in the conference quarterfinals. He also served as the recruiting coordinator for the program.
Prior to joining Colgate, Liegl spent two years as an assistant coach at the University of Findlay, where he helped the Oilers increase their win total in both seasons.
Following his college career, Liegl served one year as an assistant coach at American International College, where he was the primary recruiter.
As a player, Liegl was a goaltender at Marian College, where he was a two-time All-MHCA selection. He served as a captain in his final two years and was the team's Most Valuable Player in 1997 and 1998.
An instructor at various hockey schools throughout the United States, Liegl graduated from Marian in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. He is currently working on his M.B.A. in Organizational Leadership from Findlay.
Liegl joins fellow assistant coach Colette Bredin in filling out head coach John Burke's staff.
