Holden Named Assistant Women's Coach at Quinnipiac

Former Quinnipiac University goaltender Jamie Holden is returning to his alma mater as an assistant women's ice hockey coach, as it has been announced by head coach Michael Barrett.

One of the most decorated players in program history, Holden enters the collegiate coaching ranks after spending the 2005-06 season playing professional hockey. He signed with the San Jose Sharks organization prior to the season and split time with the club's American Hockey League (Cleveland Barons) and East Coast Hockey League (Fresno Falcons) affiliates.

Holden made an immediate impact with Cleveland during the first month of the regular season. He won five of his first six AHL decisions and was named the league's Player of the Week on Nov. 6, 2005.

The return of two injured goalies to the parent club resulted in Holden's return to Fresno midway through the season. He didn't miss a beat, posting a 20-7-1 record to go along with a 2.55 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.

With Holden guarding the Fresno net, the Falcons reached the National Conference finals, where they lost to eventual Kelly Cup champion Alaska in seven games.

In his four years as a player with the Bobcats (2001-05), Holden established himself as a force both on and off the ice. As a freshman, Holden saw the bulk of the action down the stretch and backstopped the Bobcats to their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance. For his efforts, he was chosen as the 2002 MAAC Hockey League Defensive Rookie of the Year.

As a junior, Holden finished fourth nationally in save percentage and earned Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Year honors. Those statistics, combined with his efforts in the classroom, also earned Holden Atlantic Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year laurels.

Holden capped his career by being named a Regional Academic All-American by the ESPN the Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

He holds the program's career records for saves (2,879), goals against average (2.49) and save percentage (.921). He is also tied for first on the career wins list (59) with J.C. Wells.

Holden also possesses the single-season highs for saves (899, 2004-05), save percentage (.932, 2003-04) and goals against average (2.32, 2003-04).

In addition to his playing experience, Holden has also served as an instructor at various camps and clinics. Most recently, he was a head instructor at "Gold in the Net" camp, an internationally renowned program locations in Finland, Sweden and British Columbia.

He is a 2005 Quinnipiac graduate with a B.S. in biology.
