Six ECAC Hockey Women Earn New England All-Star Honors
ALBANY, N.Y. - Six ECAC Hockey men were recently honored by the New England Hockey Writers, as they were named to the group's annual All-Star Team. Dartmouth's Gillian Apps led the way for the league, as she was named Most Valuable Player. Joining Apps on the All-Star team were Harvard's Caitlin Cahow, Julie Chu and Sarah Vaillancourt, Yale's Helen Resor and Big Green teammate Carli Clemis
Five of the league's selections are members of either the United States or Canadian National teams and participated in the 2006 Olympics.
Apps was the ECACHL's Player of the Year and a unanimous First-Team All-League selection. The senior forward ranked 10th in the NCAA with 1.48 points per game on 30 points and 16 assists. Her 30 goals were second-most in the NCAA.
Sophomore goalie Carli Clemis was named to the All-Star team after a stellar campaign in which she posted a 23-5-2 record between the pipes. Clemis had a staggering 1.71 goals against average and a save percentage of .921. The ECACHL Goalie of the Year also recorded four shutouts on the year.
Chu, the 2007 Patty Kazmaier Award winner as the top collegiate player in women's hockey, was a unanimous first team all-league pick as a senior as she finished the year ranked first nationally in points per game (2.20), assists (48) and assists per game (1.60). She had at least one point in 27 of the 30 games in which she played, and she finished her playing career at Harvard with a school-record 196 career assists.
Cahow was a First-Team All-ECACHL defenseman and ranked eighth nationally among blue liners in scoring. She finished the season with 28 points on eight goals and 20 assists and anchored a Harvard defense that yielded less than two goals per game.
Vaillancourt, who earned second-team all-league honors, was the nation's third-leading scorer in terms of points per game (1.93). the sophomore forward had a team-high 30 goals to go with 26 assists and 56 points this season and ranks 12th on Harvard's career scoring list.
Resor, who was also a second-team All-ECAC pick, had 20 points (5-15-20) in 24 games, to finish the season fifth on the Bulldogs scoring list this. The sophomore was second among league defensemen in scoring in conference play (1.00 ppg, 5-13-18 in 18 conference games).
