Three ECACHL Women's Teams Receive NCAA Bids
ALBANY, N.Y. - The ECAC Hockey League will have three teams vying for a chance at the NCAA title, as Dartmouth, Harvard and St. Lawrence all received bids to this year's national tournament. The Big Green received an automatic bid as the league's tournament champion, while the Crimson and Saints were recipients of at-large bids.
Eight teams are selected for the championship. Of the eight teams, the top four teams will be seeded. Wisconsin enters the tournament as the No. 1 seed, while Mercyhurst is the No. 2 seed, Dartmouth is No. 3 and New Hampshire is No. 4.
Two teams will compete at each of the four regional sites. Regionals will be played Friday, March 9 and Saturday March 10, at four regional sites -Wisconsin, Mercyhurst, Dartmouth, and New Hampshire. The winning team from each regional will advance to the 2007 Women's Frozen Four.
Wisconsin will host Harvard on Saturday, March 10 at 7:07 p.m., while Mercyhurst will host Minnesota Duluth on Friday, March 9 at 7 p.m. Dartmouth will host Boston College, March 10 at 3 p.m., and New Hampshire will take on St. Lawrence on March 10 in Durham, N.H., at 1 p.m. All times are local to the site.
Minnesota Duluth won the championship the first three years of the tournament (2001, 2002 and 2003), while the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities claimed the next two (2004 and 2005). In 2006, Wisconsin became the first team outside of the state of Minnesota to capture the Women's Frozen Four title after defeating the Golden Gophers, 3-0 at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The semifinal games will be played live at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Eastern time, Friday, March 16 on CSTV. The championship game will be played live at 1 p.m. Eastern time, Sunday, March 18, on CSTV.
