Colgate's Hunt Shares Recent Experience Traveling in Ecuador
With spring break approaching, Colgate University women's hockey player Sam Hunt had options as to how to spend her week away from Hamilton, N.Y. Instead of heading home to Calgary or going with friends to a typical spring break resort, Hunt, along with 21 classmates, spent a week in Ecuador studying volcanoes as an optional part of the Volcanology 220 course.
Having recently declared her major in geology, Hunt decided to keep a journal of her experiences in the South American country. She shares her entries below.
Day 1: March 11, 2007
Today is our first day in Ecuador. We woke up at 7:15 and had
breakfast at our hostel in Quito, the capital city of Ecuador of
about three million people. Our hostel is located in a tourist area
in downtown Quito and is very busy. After breakfast we went on a
walking tour of Quito with an English-speaking guide. She took us
through Old Town Quito where we saw the presidents' house and the
congress buildings. Quito is a very beautiful city built on steep
hills.
