Katey Stone To Coach U.S. Under-22 Select Team

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - USA Hockey announced Wednesday that Harvard women's ice hockey coach Katey Stone has been chosen to coach the U.S. Women's National Under-22 Select Team, which will compete this summer at that organization's annual national festival.

Stone, who completed her 12th season as Harvard's head coach in 2006, is no stranger to international competition with USA Hockey. She was an assistant coach for the 1996 U.S. women's national team and coached at the USA Hockey Girls Select 17/18 Festival in 2005.

Stone is one of the most successful coaches in the history of women's collegiate hockey. She ranks fourth all-time in Division I victories and has amassed a 245-115-17 record through her first 12 seasons at Harvard. She has led Harvard to five NCAA tournament appearances, three trips to the NCAA championship game, and the 1999 AWHCA national title. She holds a 30-12-0 postseason record with the Crimson.

Stone also has coached nine players who have played in the Olympic Games -- including six who competed in Torino in 2006 -- as well as four of the nine Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winners since the inception of that trophy.

The Women's National Festival will feature the top U.S. players under 22 years of age, who will compete for spots on the team from Aug. 15-22. A team of 20 players will be chosen to compete in a three-game series against Canada's Under-22 squad in Ottawa, Ont., Aug. 23-27.
