Ryan Stone Hired As Women's Assistant Coach at Colgate
HAMILTON, N.Y. - Colgate University head women's ice hockey coach Scott Wiley has announced the hiring of Ryan Stone as an assistant coach.
"I am very excited to add Ryan to our staff. He brings a wealth of experience and hockey knowledge to our program" Wiley said. "He has been successful everywhere he has been and will be a tremendous asset to our program. Bringing Ryan aboard is a huge step forward for our program."

Stone comes to Colgate after serving as the head coach of the Chinese National Women's Ice Hockey Team since 2005. The position sponsored by the New York Islanders NHL Hockey Club, Stone was responsible for the development of the entire national women's ice hockey program in China. His duties included the development of the players' skills and tactics, selection of players, evaluating the state of girls/women's ice hockey in the country, teaching and supervising assistant coaches, holding coaching clinics for coaches of girls' ice hockey in China.
Prior to his time in the People's Republic of China, Stone served as the top assistant women's ice coach at Brown University under head coach Digit Murphy from 2000-05. He worked primarily with the goaltenders and defenders while also acting as the program's recruiting coordinator. Stone also analyzed game film, maintained the program's budget, scheduled games, and other duties.
Stone became the first head women's ice hockey coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1995 after helping elevate the program from a club status. He was involved in all phases of administering and coaching the program until his departure 2000. His duties included coaching skills/strategies, fundraising, and assisting with scheduling, scouting and recruiting.
Stone also has been involved in various clinics and camps, including coaching the goaltenders at the ELITE Hockey School from 1992-present.
A voting member on the executive committee of the American Women's Hockey Coaches Association (AWHCA), Stone also designed and implemented the organization's Web page. Stone is also a member of the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) and was on the selection committee for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award from 1997-99.
Stone earned three letters as a goaltender at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., from 1988-91, and was also a three-year letterwinner as a pitcher and an outfielder for the Vikings' baseball team.
Stone received a B.S. in computer & systems engineering from RPI and a B.A. in mathematics from Lawrence in 1993.
