Daniel Earns Academic All-America Honor
TROY, N.Y. - Rensselaer forward Sarah Daniel has been
selected to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine National Academic
All-America Women's At-Large Team. Daniel, a senior,
garnered University Division Third-Team recognition. It is
the second straight Academic All-America honor for Daniel.
A native of Calgary, Alb., Daniel carries a 3.91 cumulative grade
point average as an aeronautical engineering and mechanical
engineering dual major. A member of SAAC and the Athletic Board,
she earned an academic citation for outstanding work in
Fundamentals of Flight and is a member of the Pi Tau Sigma
International Mechanical Engineering Honor Society. The recipient
of a Rensselaer Leadership Award and a finalist for the ECAC
Hockey's Scholar-Athlete Award, Daniel is also involved in the
community.
On the ice this season, she was a second-year captain who scored 11
goals with seven assists in helping the Engineers to the playoffs
in their first year in ECAC Hockey. Daniel, who has secured a
full-time engineering position near her hometown, was presented
with three team awards at year's end. In addition to receiving her
third consecutive Student-Athlete award, Daniel was also the
recipient of the Bill Cahill Memorial Award as well as the Willie
Stanton Award.
The Academic All-America At-Large Teams consist of participants in
bowling, crew, field hockey, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey,
lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo. In order
to be nominated, one must be a starter or an important reserve and
have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. She must have
reached sophomore standing and must have participated in at least
50 percent of the team's contests.
