Weekly ECAC Hockey League Women's Honorees Announced
ALBANY, N.Y. - Three athletes have been honored by the ECAC Hockey League. It was announced yesterday (Nov. 6) that Princeton University's Brittany Salmon (Batvia, N.Y.), Dartmouth College's Carli Clemis (Taber, Alb.) and Yale University's Denise Soesilo (Hamburg, Germany) have been tabbed with the league's weekly awards.
Salmon is the Player of the Week and Clemis is the Goaltender of the Week, while Soesilo earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Salmon scored three of Princeton's five goals this past weekend, as the Tigers swept Brown and Yale. Salmon scored both of Princeton's goals in the 2-1 win at Brown, scoring the first one short-handed and the second on the power play. The next day, she had the winning goal vs. Yale. The junior forward now has four goals and an assist for five points this season.
Last season, the trip to Brown and Yale was the only weekend of the season that the Tigers did not earn at least one win, and Princeton avenged that weekend by sweeping this one.
The daughter of Marlin and Donna Salmon, Brittany played hockey for Nichols School and with the Buffalo Bisons prior to attending Princeton.
Clemis backstopped the Big Green in a thrilling win over No. 5 St. Lawrence and then posted her first shutout of the year the next night against Clarkson. Clemis turned away 23-of-25 shots against the Saints to earn the win, then stopped 28 shots by the Golden Knights for the weekend sweep. Overall, the sophomore netminder has played in five of the Big Green's six games, and holds a 3-2 record in net. She's stopped 109-of-118 shots for a 1.82 goals against average.
Carli is the daughter of Kelly and Jan Clemis, and she played hockey for the Alberta Under-18 team prior to enrolling at Dartmouth.
Soesilo picked up three points over the weekend, including goals in both games, en route to earning this week's rookie honors. She scored Yale's final goal in a 3-1 win over Quinnipiac Saturday and also assisted on the game winner. She had Yale's only goal in a 3-1 loss to Princeton Sunday at Ingalls Rink. The rookie forward is currently second on the Bulldogs in points (2-3-5), including four in conference play.
Prior to attending Yale, Soesilo played hockey with the German National Team at the recent Olympics in Italy.
