Weekly ECAC Hockey League Women's Honorees Announced
ALBANY, N.Y. - Three athletes have been honored by the ECAC Hockey League. It was announced earlier today that Quinnipiac University's Ashley Jaffray (Olds, Alb.), St. Lawrence University's Meaghan Guckian (Victor, N.Y.) and Clarkson University's Britney Selina (Thornhill, Ont.) have been tabbed with the league's weekly awards.
Jaffray is the Player of the Week and Guckian is the Goaltender of the Week, while Selina earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Jaffray, a senior forward, set a NCAA women's ice hockey record for all divisions on Saturday vs. Northeastern when she scored two short-handed goals just 18 seconds apart on the same shift. It was also the first multi-goal game of her career. Jaffray leads the nation with two short-handed goals and is the first player in the history of the program to net two short-handed goals in a single season.
The daughter of Diane and Wayne Jaffray, Ashley played hockey with the Airdrie Lightning before attending Quinnipiac.
Guckian continues her winning ways for the Saints, picking up two victories between the pipes over the weekend, including her ninth career shutout. The junior netminder stopped 53 of 54 shots en route to a 2-1 win vs. Providence and a 3-0 blanking of Connecticut. Guckian's nine shutouts rank second all-time at St. Lawrence.
Prior to attending St. Lawrence, Guckian started in goal for the Buffalo Bisons and the Victor Central Boys Varsity hockey team. She is the daughter of Vicki and Mike Guckian.
Selina picked up four points against No. 3 Mercyhurst en route to earning rookie honors this week. The newcomer had a power-play goal on Friday and then set up all three Clarkson goals on Saturday. She now has seven points on the year (3 goals, four assists), which leads the ECACHL.
Britney is the daughter of Anna and Stewart Selina. She played hockey for the Etobicoke Dolphins last year.
Five other student-athletes were named to the league's weekly honor roll: Clarkson -- Katie Morrison (Jr., LW - Ridgefield, Conn.); Colgate -- Mallory Johnson (D, Jr. - Chatham, Ont.); Rensselaer -- Allysen Weidner (Fr., F - Wichita, Kan.); Quinnipiac -- Laura Brennan (Sr., G - White Bear Lake, Minn.); Union -- Alex Zirbel (So., G - Clearwater, Fla.).
