Brown and Harvard Sweep Weekend Competition

ALBANY, N.Y. - The ECAC Hockey League had all of its women's teams back in action this past weekend, and the race for position in the standings is clearly underway. Harvard moved into sole possession of first-place after sweeping its league opponents, while Brown also moved up in the standings after winning its two league games.

Dartmouth also gained some ground with a three-point weekend, while Princeton and Yale earned one point each after tying.

For the Crimson, victory came on the road, as the squad won its games at Colgate and Cornell. Freshman Jenny Brine was a leader for the team, picking up three points in each game for a six-point weekend. Her four goals (including the game winner vs. Colgate) and two assists were among the best in the league for the weekend and earned her Player of the Week honors. Senior netminder Ali Boe and frosh Brittany Martin earned the two wins between the pipes, with Boe making 22 stops vs. the Raiders and Martin making 39 saves vs. the Big Red.

The Big Green also earned its points in Central New York over the weekend with a win over Cornell and a tie vs. Colgate. Dartmouth was down in both games, but veteran Tiffany Hagge netted the winner vs. the Big Red and rookie blue liner Julia Bronson scored at 14:56 in the third to tie things up vs. the Raiders.

Brown's two wins came with a shutout vs. Quinnipiac and a 4-3 win over No. 8/9 Princeton. O'Hara Shipe, this week's Goaltender of the Week, was tough in goal vs. the Tigers, stopping 42 shots, including a flurry of 17 in the third period. Princeton pulled its goalie for an extra attacker in the waning moments of the game, but Shipe held on to claim her third victory of the season. Keaton Zucker netted what proved to be the game winner just 51 seconds into the third period. That goal mover her into 25th on Brown's all-time scoring list. Stacy Silverman earned the blanking over the Bobcats, which was her third career shutout and second this season.

Yale played just one league game this past week and tied nationally ranked Princeton 5-5. The next day, the Bulldogs pulled off an upset, downing Northeastern for the first time in program history. And, not only did they win, they shut out the Huskies 3-0. Prior to the victory, NU owned a 19-0 record vs. the Bulldogs, outscoring the team 107-14 during that stretch. Freshman Crysti Howser played a big roll in both games, having a hand in four of the five goals (two goals, two assists) vs. Princeton and then adding a goal and an assist vs. Northeastern. Her seven-point weekend earned her Rookie of the Week honors.

In other non-league action, Clarkson earned a 6-0 win over Robert Morris, while St. Lawrence split with visiting St. Cloud State, going to overtime each night. Union lost back-to-back games to Rensselaer, while Colgate was shut out by No. 1/2 New Hampshire.

Harvard kicks things off this week when it takes on New Hampshire Wednesday night. Eight league games take place this weekend with Quinnipiac and Princeton traveling to Cornell and Colgate, while Brown and Yale head to the North Country for games vs. Clarkson and St. Lawrence. In non-league action, Dartmouth faces Connecticut for a single game Saturday, while Union plays host to Robert Morris Saturday and Sunday.
