ECAC Hockey League Women Heading into Break
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Three ECAC Hockey League women's teams played games last week, with Dartmouth and Harvard facing each other and Union taking in two exhibition contests. The remaining eight teams were idle due to exams and the holiday break.
In league play, Harvard played host to Dartmouth last Wednesday and earned a 4-1 victory. Freshman forward Jenny Brine registered her first collegiate hat trick, while linemates Jennifer Raimondi and Katie Johnston had three assists each as the No. 9 Crimson completed a five-game homestand with the win over the Big Green. Brine scored Harvard's first three goals, including a pair of tallies 1:44 apart in the third period as the Crimson built a 3-0 lead. That was plenty for Crimson goaltender Ali Boe, who finished with 17 saves. Dartmouth closed to within two with 4:35 left in the third period when Carrie Thompson scored her sixth goal of the season to make it 3-1. But freshman Sarah Wilson iced it for Harvard as her empty-net power-play goal with eight seconds left put Harvard back on top by three.
In non-league action, Union traveled to Canada and split a set of games against Brock University in exhibition play. Game one saw the Dutchwomen claim a 4-2 victory, while game two was a 7-2 loss.
In the first contest, three first period goals were all Union needed as the defense held the rest of the way. Sophomore Maeve Kehoe led the Dutchwomen with two goals. Elise Nichols and Ashley Kilstein also scored, while Alex Zirbel stopped 19 shots to earn the win.
The next day, Brock had one player with five goals lead the way to downing the Dutchwomen. Freshman Gabi Wintner scored both Union goals on the power play.
All 11 women's teams are idle this week and some teams will resume play on Friday, Dec. 30.
