Three ECACHL Games Taken By Home Teams
Eight Others Fair Well in Out-of-Conference Play
ALBANY, N.Y. - Just three ECAC Hockey League games were on the books this past week and the home team took all three. Princeton claimed a victory over visiting Quinnipiac, while St. Lawrence blanked Union twice.
In non-league action, ECACHL teams earned four wins and two ties on the week. Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard and Princeton picked up one win each, while the Tigers and Quinnipiac each claimed a tie.
In a mid-week game, Princeton welcomed the Bobcats to Hobey Baker Rink and skated to a 2-1 victory. All three goals in the game came on the power play, with the Tigers going 2-or-7 and the Bobcats converting 1-of-3 attempts. Laura Watt, who also had an assists in the game, netted the winning goal at 11:46 in the third, just 15 seconds after an Ashley Jaffray cross checking penalty. The Tigers gave goaltender Connie Craig a tough challenge, as they outshot the Bobcats 38-8, and Craig did her best in stopping 36 of them.
The Tigers went on to down Wayne State 5-2 and earn a 2-2 tie with the Warriors over the weekend. Princeton scored four straight in earning the win, with Annie Greenwood, Tarah Clark, Marykate Oakley and Kim Pearce each scoring a goal and adding an assist. The tie saw Heather Jackson and Pearce net one goal each. Senior goaltender Roxanne Gaudiel went 2-0-1 on the week and earned Goaltender of the Week honors. She posted a .921 save percentage and a 1.09 goals against average over the three games.
St. Lawrence earned four league points and is now tied for the top spot in the standings with local rival Clarkson at 12 points a piece. The Saints swept Union over the weekend by a 17-0 margin, winning with 10 goals Friday and seven on Saturday.
Sophomore forward Sabrina Harbec was named Player of the Week after posting a total of eight points over the two games with three goals and five assists. Saturday's victory saw her match a career high with the four assists and five points. Teammate Carson Duggan took home Rookie of the Week honors after scoring six goals in the two games including the game winner both days. In game two, she netted her second career hat trick with four goals.
Brown and Harvard earned their victories in non-league play last week. Brown started thing off a week ago with a 1-0 win over Connecticut, followed by a 3-1 Crimson win over the Huskies the next night. Harvard also faced a tough New Hampshire squad and fell 3-0 to the Wildcats.
Dartmouth's victory came on the road against Providence. Shannon Bowman netted the game winner, and it marked the first winning goal of the season not scored by Tiffany Hagge. Hagge did, however, assist on the goal.
After its league game vs. Princeton, Quinnipiac played host to Maine over the weekend and tied the Black Bears 2-2 on Friday night before falling 4-3 on Saturday. Special teams was a factor for the Bobcats in the tie, as Elyse Cole scored short-handed and Jennifer Maclean tallied on the power play.
The final two games from last week had Clarkson at Niagara. The Purple Eagles took both games, and Ashley Shaidle scored the Golden Knights' lone goal of the weekend.
There are just three games on this weekend's slates, as most teams are wrapping up exams and /or are taking time off for the holidays.
Dartmouth and Harvard will battle in an ECAC Hockey League game tomorrow (12/14) at the Bright Hockey Center in Cambridge. At least one of the two schools has been in the league title game over the last seven years, including three head-to-head matchups. The Crimson beat the Bi Green three times last year, including a 4-1 final in the league championship tilt.
Union is also in action this weekend and will play two exhibition contests against Canadian schools. The Dutchwomen start off with a 5:30 p.m. contest at Brock University tomorrow (12/14). The team will then face Ridley College in a 2 p.m. contest on Thursday (12/15).
