St. Lawrence and Clarkson Unbeaten Early On

Union Sweeps Sacred Heart

ALBANY, N.Y. -- There was plenty of non-conference action last weekend, as well as numerous scrimmages and exhibitions, as all 11 ECAC Hockey League teams are now in action. St. Lawrence and Clarkson are playing well early on and both are unbeaten through the first two weekends of play.

The Saints, ranked sixth in the latest national polls, played two games last week vs. No 9 Mercyhurst and earned a win and a tie. Freshman goalie Meaghan Guckian (Victor, N.Y.) had an outstanding performance in earning the win, stopping 48 of 49 shots, which also earned her Rookie of the Week honors. Sophomore forward Chelsea Grills (Stittsville, Ont.) also shone for the Saints, as she scored three of the team's four goals over the weekend, including Saturday's game winner.

Clarkson also stayed out of the loss column, earning two ties vs. Wayne State last weekend. Sophomore Jill Nolan (Labrador, N.F.) and freshman Jessica Cloutier (Parker, Colo.) lead the Green and Gold with six points each so far this season. Nolan had three goals and two assists over the weekend, while Cloutier posted two assists.

A big highlight of the weekend was Union's sweep of Sacred Heart by 7-3 and 7-1 scores. It marked the first time that the Dutchwomen has ever swept a Division I program. Sophomore forward Elise Nichols (Pitsfield, Mass.), this week's Player of the Week, led the team with six goals, including four in game two, which set a Union record for goals in a game.

Colgate also earned a victory over the weekend, shutting out Quinnipiac 3-0. Senior Rebecca Lahar (Vienna, Va.) was the league's Goalie of the Week after making 18 saves to record her 12th career shutout, which ties the school record.

Preseason favorite Dartmouth opens up this weekend when it plays host to Boston College on Friday night. The Big Green, ranked first in the preseason ECACHL coaches' poll and second in the latest national poll, return junior forward Katie Weatherston (Thunder Bay, Ont.) and senior defender Alana BreMiller (Millbrook, N.Y.). Both were preseason All-League picks.

Princeton, Brown and Yale will also face non-conference opponents, opening their seasons against Providence, New Hampshire and Quinnipiac, respectively.
