Vermont and St. Lawrence Sweep Weekend Opponents

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The University of Vermont and St. Lawrence University both earned four points in the ECAC Hockey League standings over the weekend with sweeps of their opponents. It was the second straight week for SLU to win both of its games, while it was the first time this season that the Catamounts took two straight. In fact, UVM has now won its last three games.

Princeton and Harvard picked up three points each over the weekend with a win and a tie. The draw came between the two squads, with each scoring once in the 1-all matchup. The Tigers went on to earn a 4-3 victory over Brown, while the Crimson stormed to an 11-2 win over Yale. The Orange and Black and Cantabs had their players pick up the weekly league honors.

Princeton's Dina McCumber becomes the first blue liner to take Player of the Week accolades after having a hand in three of the Tiger's five goals on the weekend. She, along with Goalie of the Week Roxanne Gaudiel, shut down the Crimson's powerful offense in giving up just one goal. Harvard entered the game averaging 3.76 goals per game. Gaudiel stopped a total of 77 shots in the two games.

Harvard's Sarah Vaillancourt earned Rookie of the Week honors after turning in a career-high six-point effort with a pair of power-play goals and four assists in her team's victory over Yale.

St. Lawrence's two wins moved the team up two spots in the league standings, and a new individual school record was set in the process. Senior captain Rebecca Russell became the Saints all-time leading scorer in Saturday's contest. Her goal at 4:11 into the third period against Colgate gave her 153 career points (67g, 86a), breaking Gina Kingsbury's '04 record of 152 set last March. Also, freshman goalie Meaghan Guckian became the first Saints rookie goaltender to post 10 wins since Rachel Barrie '04 went 15-5-2 her freshman year.

The Catamounts are enjoying its longest winning streak since joining the Division I ranks. Senior goaltender Kami Cote earned both wins and the team's third shutout of the year. Junior Hilary Johnson helped provide the offense, scoring a goal and an assist in each game.

Colgate and Clarkson also earned wins over the weekend as they both split their games. Colgate earned its victory with a 3-1 decision over the Golden Knights, while Clarkson shut out Cornell 2-0.

There are two mid-week games this week with Union and Colgate playing host to Quinnipiac and Cornell, respectively. The Raiders-Big Red matchup will be broadcast live in Central New York on Time Warner Cable.

Weekend contests have Brown and Harvard traveling to Dartmouth and Vermont, while Clarkson and St. Lawrence go to Princeton and Yale. In non-league action, Cornell welcomes Niagara for two; Colgate takes on Mercyhurst twice; and Union travels to Sacred Heart for a set.
