Dartmouth and St. Lawrence Earn Four More League Points

ALBANY, N.Y. - Dartmouth and St. Lawrence swept their ECAC Hockey League competition this past weekend, while Colgate and Vermont picked up two points each after earning splits. The Catamounts' win was especially nice, as it was their first league victory.

The Big Green earned its 11th and 12th league wins to maintain its hold on first place. Katie Weatherston netted a pair of power-play goals and won 27 of her 37 faceoffs to lead Dartmouth. The team is off this weekend but will return in early February and will look to maintain its perfect record down the stretch run.

St. Lawrence has played two fewer games than Dartmouth and is looking to peak at the right time. The Saints' gained their four points on the road over Union last weekend. Senior Rebecca Russell led SLU in its sweep with six points on two goals and four assists, earning Player of the Week honors in the process. One of her goals was a short-handed marker, the fifth of her career, which is a St. Lawrence record.

Colgate may have split its games over the weekend, netting its win over Vermont, but there were positives to report in its loss. The Raiders' other game didn't end the way they wanted it to, but they hung tough with Dartmouth, which bodes well for the stretch run. Goaltender of the Week Rebecca Lahar made 24 stops in the game, holding the Big Green well below its 5.84 goals per game average (stat entering the game). She allowed just three goals in the contest and turned the Big Green away on many other excellent opportunities. The Raiders' offense is also playing well, scoring 12 goals over their last four games.

Vermont earned its first league victory with a 1-0 decision at Cornell on Saturday. Rookie of the Week Stephanie Tewksbury netted the game winner with 1:54 left to play in the second period. Goaltender Kami Cote posted her second shut out of the season, stopping all 32 shots she faced in the game.

Clarkson also earned a victory last weekend along with a tie, as the Golden Knights faced Quinnipiac at Cheel Arena. The Knights tied 2-2 in overtime the first day, before Jessica Finley made 12 saves in backstopping the team to a 5-0 shutout the next day. It was Finley's first start of the year.

There's plenty of league action this weekend, as Harvard and Princeton return to competition after spending the last two weeks taking semester exams. Yale and Princeton will travel to Brown and Harvard, while Colgate and Cornell head to the North Country for games vs. Clarkson and St. Lawrence. Vermont will take on Union in New York for a twin set to wrap up the weekend.
