Big Green undefeated in league play
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Three ECAC Hockey League teams swept their league games this past weekend, with No. 6 Harvard taking four points on the road, while No. 5 St. Lawrence and No. 2 Dartmouth earned four at home. The Big Green continues to roll, and is now 8-0-0 in ECACHL play.
Along with the sweeps, four other teams split their weekend contests, with Brown, Colgate, Princeton and Yale each winning one.
Dartmouth earned its victories over Union with double-digit scores in both games. The Big Green also earned a 3-1 win over then-No. 6 New Hampshire last week and is on a four-game streak. Netminder Christine Capuano earned the win over UNH and another vs. Union to take this week's goalie honors. The sophomore posted a 1.00 goals against average and a .947 save percentage for the week.
Harvard's two wins came in Central New York, as the Crimson downed Cornell and Colgate. Freshman Sarah Vaillancourt earned Rookie of the Week accolades after picking up five points with three goals and two assists over the weekend. She now has 28 points on the year, which leads the nation's rookies.
St. Lawrence faced two tough opponents in then-No. 10 Princeton and league-leading Yale. The Saints were led by Player of the Week Rebecca Russell, who notched six points, including two goals in each game. The goaltenders also came up big, with Meaghan Guckian making 20 stops in the win vs. Princeton and Jess Moffatt had 23 saves vs. Yale.
The Bulldogs started off their weekend with an overtime victory over Clarkson with Kelsey Johnson netting the game winner. The Tigers came back on Saturday and also earned a win over the Golden Knights with Roxanne Gaudiel making 19 stops to earn her fifth shutout of the season.
Colgate earned its weekend W against Brown on Friday night. The Bears rebounded the next day with a 4-0 victory over Cornell. Four different players scored in the win, and Stacy Silverman made 22 saves.
There is a mix of league and non-league games on this week's slate. Starting this evening (Jan. 11), Harvard and Brown face off in an ECACHL game, while Colgate travels to New Hampshire.
