Weekly ECAC Hockey League Women's Honorees Announced
ALBANY, N.Y. - Three athletes have been honored by the ECAC Hockey League. It was announced earlier today (Nov. 8) that Katie Weatherston (Thunder Bay, Ont.) of Dartmouth, Christine Capuano (Stoneham, Mass.) of Dartmouth and Sarah Vaillancourt (Sherbrooke, Ont.) of Harvard have been tabbed with the league's weekly awards.
Weatherston was named Player of the Week, Capuano is the Goaltender of the Week and Vaillancourt is the league's Rookie of the Week.
Weatherston continued her remarkable start to the year by notching six goals and two helpers in a pair of ECAC Hockey League games over the weekend, which helped No. 2 Dartmouth improve to 3-0-0. During the Big Green's 3-0 win over No. 8 Princeton, the junior scored short handed and on the power play just nine minutes apart to help Dartmouth pull away. Against Yale, Weatherston played a hand in the Big Green's first six goals, including scoring four consecutive goals during a 13:39 span. It was her second hat trick in three games, and she now has nine goals and four assists for 13 points on the year and leads the nation in goals per game and points per game. This is the second straight week Weatherston has received ECACHL honors.
Prior to attending Dartmouth, Weatherston played hockey for the Thunder Bay Comets. She is the daughter of David and Anna Weatherston.
Capuano made 18 saves as she backstopped the Big Green to the 3-0 blanking of Princeton. It was her eighth career win, and fifth over a ranked opponent. The win was her first career shutout, and it came against a team that had averaged 4.0 goals per game during its first two contests of 2004-05. It was the sophomore's first game of the year.
Christine is the daughter of Francis Sr. and Dianne Capuano, she played hockey for Lawrence Academy prior to attending Dartmouth.
Vaillancourt made an instant impact in her collegiate debut for Harvard. She scored a power-play goal, the Crimson's first goal of the season, in the 3-1 win over Colgate last Friday. The frosh followed that with two goals, and a pair of assists in the 8-2 win over Cornell, giving her five points for the weekend. Those five points tie her for the top spot on the team for scoring.
The daughter of Robert and Marie Vaillancourt, Sarah played hockey at Pomfret School prior to enrolling at Harvard.
Nine other student-athletes were named to the league's weekly honor roll: Nicole Corriero -- Harvard (Sr., F, Thornhill, Ont.); Marie-Pier Desbiens - Brown (So., G, Bolton-Est, Que.); Amanda Hanson - Union (So., G, Brainerd, Minn.); Emma Madigan - Clarksno (So., RW, Mississauga, Ont.); Krissy McManus - Brown (Sr., F, Dedham, Mass.); Katie Morrison -- Clarkson (Fr., LW, Ridgefield, Conn.); Rebecca Russell - St. Lawrence (Sr., F, Clarenville, Newfoundland); Kristin Savard - Yale (So., F, Framingham, Mass.); Becky Stewart - Princeton (Sr., F, Apple Valley, Minn.).
