Weekly ECAC Hockey League Women's Honorees Announced
ALBANY, N.Y. - Three athletes have been honored by the ECAC Hockey League. It was announced earlier today (Oct. 26) that Elise Nichols of Union, Rebecca Lahar of Colgate and Meaghan Guckian of St. Lawrence have been tabbed with the league's weekly awards.
Nichols was named Player of the Week, Lahar is the Goaltender of the Week and Guckian is the league's Rookie of the Week.
Nichols (So., F, Pittsfield, Mass.) led Union over the weekend with six goals in two games to help the Dutchwomen win back-to-back games against Sacred Heart. In the first contest, Nichols scored a pair of goals, including a short-handed tally in Union's 7-3 win over the Pioneers. The following day, she had another short-handed goal and the game winner in a four-goal outburst to lead the team to a 7-1 victory. Nichols made Union women's hockey history, becoming the first player to score four goals in a game. It also marked the first time that the Dutchwomen has ever swept a Division I opponent.
Elise is the daughter of Susan and Robert Nichols and played hockey for the Troy Ice Cats prior to enrolling at Union.
Lahar (Sr., F, Vienna, Va.) tied Colgate's all-time shutout mark with an 18 saves performance against Quinnipiac over the weekend. The Raiders earned a 3-0 win behind her performance. Her 12 career shutouts tie her with Lindsay Barton for the Raiders all-time lead. The first-team preseason all-league pick now boasts a .909 save percentage and a 2.33 goals against average to go with her 2-1 record.
Rebecca played for the Washington Little Caps prior to enrolling at Colgate.
Guckian (Fr., G, Victor, N.Y.) had an outstanding performance in net for St. Lawrence on Saturday, stopping 48 of 49 shots against No. 9 Mercyhurst, earning her second win of the season. Guckian started off the game making 17 saves and then made 19 more in the second and 12 in the third. She has seen action in five games this season and has a 2-0-0 record with a 2.50 goals against average. Her .934 save percentage ranks seventh nationally.
Meaghan is he daughter of Vicki and Mike Guckian and played for the Buffalo Bisons prior to enrolling at St. Lawrence.
Five other student-athletes were named to the league's weekly honor roll: Amanda Barre - Colgate (Sr., F, Grafton, Ont.); Chelsea Grills - St. Lawrence (So., F, Stittsville, Ont.); Ashley Kilstein - Union (Fr., F, Cherry Hill, N.J.); Katie Morrison - Clarkson (Fr., RW - Ridgefield, Conn.); Jill Nolan - Clarkson (So., C, Labrador, N.F.).
