Harvard Women's Hockey Sponsoring "Women's Ice Hockey Forum" in September
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard women's hockey program invites coaches from all levels (club, high school, college) to spend Friday, Sept. 24 at its first-ever "Women's Ice Hockey Forum." Sponsored in part by Harrow and Louisville, the day-long event features coaches Shannon Miller from Minnesota-Duluth and Bill Beaney from Middlebury.
The day's events will take place in the Murr Center's Hall of History and begins at 9:30 a.m. with registration and will conclude at 3:30 p.m., following a session focusing on favorite drills. Registration for the event is $60 per participant and includes lunch.
Miller will spend the morning sessions discussing two topics: "Using the width and depth of the ice" and "How to prepare for short term competition." Beaney will guide the afternoon sessions with his presentation, "Teaching systems through small area play."
Miller has directed her UMD women's teams to three NCAA titles (2001-03) in just four years at the helm of the program. She also served as the head coach of the Canadian women's team for seven years. During that time, she led the team to a silver medal at the 1998 Olympic Games and three goal medals at the World Championships (1992, '94, '97).
Beaney, has coached his Middlebury men's program to six NCAA Division III titles (1995-1999 and 2004) and has been named the men's College Coach of the Year three times. Beaney also served as head coach of the U.S. Women's Junior National Team in 1996 and 1997 and remains very involved with USA Hockey. In 1998-99, he was named the USOC National Hockey Coach of the Year.
