There’s no mystery to Chris Higgins the player. Hard working, competent and driven to succeed, the Vancouver Canucks winger has arguably been one of the team’s most consistent performers this NHL season.

As for Higgins the patient, it’s been nothing but a mystery. A staph infection of his foot three weeks ago sidelined the strong two-way winger for two games and was followed by his right hand swelling to such a degree from a slash cut that he spent two days in hospital last week for treatment and tests while the Canucks embarked on a three-game road trip. Higgins is still awaiting results of that blood work but was back at practice Sunday and pronounced himself fit enough to face the San Jose Sharks on Monday at Rogers Arena.

If only he was that confident with his total state of health.
