Vancouver Acquires Higgins

VANCOUVER, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired left wing Chris Higgins, a former Yale standout, from the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenceman Evan Oberg and a 2013 3rd round pick.

Higgins, 27, has appeared in 48 games for the Panthers this season, recording 23 points (11-12-23) and 10 penalty minutes. The 6’0”, 205-pound forward has played in 397 career games, collecting 191 points (103-88-191) and 138 penalty minutes with the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers. The Smithtown, New York native has made three post-season appearances, playing in 22 playoff games with Montreal and collecting 11 points (6-5-11) and four penalty minutes.

Higgins was selected 14th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens.
