NEWARK, N.J. – For players like Brad Mills, there may be no more important time of the season than the handful of otherwise unimportant preseason games in late September and early October.

The 28-year-old forward is entering his sixth season in the New Jersey Devils organization after a successful run at Yale University, and finally battled his way onto the NHL roster last season, earning a four game call-up that saw him net his first National Hockey League goal.

But now, Mills has a new head coach to impress in first-year bench boss Pete DeBoer and is trying to make the team out of camp. So far, so good. Mills earned opportunities to play in each of the Devils first two preseason contests, fighting the Rangers Dale Weise while playing a gritty role on the fourth line.
