VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Chris Higgins has this dream. It is summertime on Long Island, and he is on a beach, hoisting the Stanley Cup in front of friends and family and celebrating through the night.

“I’ve pictured it a couple of times,” Higgins, a Vancouver Canucks forward from Smithtown, N.Y., said recently during his team’s Western Conference finals against the San Jose Sharks. “That’d be pretty nice, huh?”

Stanley Cup homecoming fantasies might not be too farfetched for Higgins nowadays. After their series-clinching, double-overtime victory in Game 5 on Tuesday in Vancouver, the Canucks are four victories shy of the first title in franchise history, with Higgins playing a major role. In the playoffs, he has 7 points, including three winning goals.
