STOCKTON - Mark Arcobello has known about his selection to the ECHL All-Star Game for a month. But he wasn't sure he was going to be able to attend until two days ago.
Arcobello was chosen as a member of the Thunder but has been with Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League since Jan. 11. On Sunday, the center was informed that he was being transferred to the Stockton roster, and that's when it became official that he and trainer Kevin Anderson will be on hand at Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield. The skills competition begins at 7 p.m. today, and the All-Star Game faces off at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The team also announced that defenseman Jordan Bendfeld had been sent from Oklahoma City back to Stockton.
Arcobello said Barons general manager Bill Scott told him of the move Sunday night, he arrived in Stockton on Monday and he and Anderson will drive to Bakersfield today. Arcobello must be on the Thunder's roster to be eligible for the All-Star festivities.
"I wasn't sure whether I was coming because nothing was definite, so I was just kind of waiting it out," said Arcobello, who had 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in 29 games with Stockton. "I'm glad it worked out. I think it's going to be a fun experience."
Neither Arcobello nor coach Matt Thomas know if the 22-year-old will stay with the Thunder for any length of time or if he will return to the Barons after Wednesday.
"We'll see what happens. I haven't heard a decision on that yet," Thomas said. "I am happy for Mark and Kevin. They both deserve to get recognized for their efforts."
