Agostino is Choice for National Rookie of Month
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Kenny Agostino, a freshman forward at Yale, has been named the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) National Rookie of the Month for January.
The Flanders N.J., native, who was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fifth round, 140th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, had eight goals and four assists in his last nine games for the team ranked No. 1 for eight-straight weeks. His eight goals led the ECAC in January, while he was second in the conference in goals per game (0.89).
Agostino is ranked 21st nationally in goals per game and fourth for rookies (0.56). He is seventh among Division I rookies with 1.00 points per game. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound forward led the Bulldogs in goals, goals per game, points and points per game during January. Agostino recorded his first collegiate hat trick and tied a Yale freshman record with five points (3-2-5) against Holy Cross on Jan. 2. He was also named ECAC Rookie of the Week on Jan. 25 after notching three goals, including a game-winner, in a two-game span.
