Call it a bobble, hiccup, lapse or breakdown if you want. But after completing more than 40 percent of its season so far, one bad period is the only thing that has kept Yale from wrapping its first 12 games with a perfect record.

The Bulldogs ascended to the top of the INCH Power Rankings with an 10-1-0 record that included a Sunday shutout of top league-rival Union in a game televised on ESPNU. If people weren’t paying attention to Yale’s fast start, that caught their attention, as Yale also claimed the top spot in both national polls when they were released on Monday. Since then Yale validated those praises with another shutout victory, a 3-0 triumph Wednesday night against Vermont.

A longtime ECAC Hockey observer remarked earlier this year that, “Yale just looks like they know they’re going to win.”
